Reflection

FIU and the Global Learning Medallion Program have allowed me to expand my global awareness and learn about my community in Miami and communities beyond South Florida. When I started at FIU in 2017, I was unsure of how I wanted to become involved on campus, and eventually, I began participating in campus life activities, as well as this program. It has assisted me in determining my strengths, my passions, and allowing me the opportunity to participate in experiences that I am immensely grateful for.

I was unaware of the Global Learning Medallion Program until my junior year, after learning that I had unknowingly accumulated several Global Learning courses. I have been able to become more connected to FIU through events, like the Tuesday Times Roundtables, where I have been introduced to individuals, who teach such important lessons on awareness and perspective. These individuals also have given me opportunities to truly think and contemplate my role in society and the ways that I can grow.

The Global Learning Medallion Program played an important role in me finding what my passions are. I believe it was after I joined the program that I became more interested in what was happening around me and I felt like it was my responsibility to become more educated on politics, both nationally and internationally, and social issues. Additionally, I was able to discover programs like FIU in DC's Fly-Ins, that have also provided me with so much advice and opportunities, however, I do not think I would have learned about the Fly-In program, without the Global Learning Medallion Program.

From what I have learned from participating in this program, I will apply the lessons and perspectives to my own life during my time left at FIU and once I leave the FIU community. There is so much that I have learned and I believe this program has helped me in becoming a more open-minded and enlightened individual.
